具有摻銩可飽和吸收Q切換單元之脈衝雷射系統PULSED LASER SYSTEMS HAVING Tm3+-DOPED SATURABLE ABSORBER Q-SWITCHES

此創新發明提出一使用被動式Q-切換雷射內腔激發之增益切換雷射設計。此增益切換脈衝雷射只需要穩定的連續波 (continuous-wave , CW) 激發光源即可產生高功率雷射脈衝。將一增益切換脈衝雷射的增益介質置於一飽和吸收Q切換雷射腔內。此飽和吸收Q切換雷射的Q切換行為和產生的脈衝,可激發增益切換脈衝雷射產生一瞬間高增益,並輸出增益切換雷射脈衝。實施例是一以連續波1480-nm雷射二極體激發的1950-nm增益切換銩(thulium)脈衝雷射系統。其中摻銩光纖既是一增益切換脈衝雷射的增益介質,亦是一飽和吸收Q切換摻鉺雷射的飽和吸收Q切換元件。當摻鉺雷射被摻銩光纖Q切換時,其Q切換行為和產生的脈衝,可瞬間提高摻銩光纖在1750-2050 nm波長範圍的增益,並產生增益切換雷射脈衝。 We propose a novel design of a gain-switched laser intracavity-pumped in a passively Q-switched laser pump chamber that is pumped with a constant continuous-wave (CW) pump laser. In the design, a gain medium of a gain-switched laser is located in a saturable-absorber Q-switched laser that serves as a pump chamber. Thereby, the action of saturable-absorber Q-switching and the Q-switched pulses in the Q-switched laser could efficiently excite the gain medium of the gain-switched to produce gain-switched laser pulses. A 1950-nm gain-switched thulium laser using a CW 1480-nm pump laser diode was experimentally demonstrated where a thulium fiber was the gain medium of the gain-switched fiber laser and also the saturable absorber Q-switch of a Q-switched erbium fiber laser. A Q-switching action and a Q-switched pulse induce a high gain in the thulium fiber in the spectral region from 1750-2050 nm, thereby giving rise to a gain-switched laser pulse.
