技術說明

虹膜缺損是常見的眼科疾病，目前商業上可購得的人工虹膜的功能，主要是為了美觀，並無縮放功能，無法如人體原有的虹膜，可以隨外在光線大小來調節其進入眼睛的強度。本專利案是使用形狀記憶合金作為致動的元件，並配合分段控制電路(如附圖一)，以入射光強弱來決定通電的人工肌肉段數，與每一段的電流大小，因電流通過致人工肌肉溫度上升，產生形變，致人工肌肉長度縮短，拉動人工虹膜拉桿，最終決定瞳孔開閉的大小。應用方面除人體使用外，也可用於機械人或機械眼部份。 Iris defect or deficiency is sometimes seen in patients with congenital iris anomalies or the results of ocular trauma. Up to now, commercial iris prostheses are all passive device lacking the ability of adjusting pupil sizes in response to incoming light intensity. An automatic iris system was designed in this study, which employed shape memory alloy (SMA) to control the opening of an artificial pupil. A piece-wised current control device is designed to independently deliver current to stimulate sectional SMA, in order to provide multiple-step control of SMA’s length. SMA is connected to the handle of a metal diaphragm which serves as a model for an artificial iris. By controlling the intensity of incoming light, different extent of iris opening can be produced. Future applications may be extended to simulate the activity of artificial intraocular muscles or the accommodation ability of lens, and eventually, leading to the realization of functional artificial eye prostheses.
