技術說明

本技術提出利用外加不同頻率之交流電壓於液晶中,使得到一高對比雙穩態散射型液晶光閥(liquid crystal light shutter),此液晶光閥於外加低頻(<40Hz)或直流電壓下呈現散射態(scattering state),且將偏壓移除後亦可保持散射狀態;而若外加高頻(>300Hz)電壓,則可將液晶光閥切換至穿透態(transparent state),且將此外加電壓移除後亦保持穿透態。換言之,該高對比雙穩態散射型液晶光閥可彌補傳統散射型液晶光閥需持續外加電壓以維持散射或穿透態的缺點,如此更可大幅節省能源之消耗。另該液晶光閥具製程簡單、不需偏振片、低操作電壓及高對比等特性。 This technique reports a high-contrast and bistable scattering mode LC light shutter. The operation method is based on applying AC voltages having low and high frequencies. Briefly, the LC light shutter depicts scattering state when an AC voltage with low frequency (<40Hz) is applied. Importantly, if the applied AC voltage is switched off, the LC light shutter remains scattering mode, indicating that the LC light shutter present bistable state. To switch the LC light shutter from scattering state to transparent state, an AC voltage with high frequency (>300Hz) is employed to orient the LC molecules. After the applied voltage is removed, the transparent state can also be kept. Such a technique can be used to overcome the disadvantages, such as power consumption, of conventional scattering mode LC light shutter. The LC light shutter has several advantages, including simple fabrication, polarizer-free, low-operation voltage, independence of polarization, high contrast, etc.
