技術說明

下一世代的無線通訊系統,一方面將採用30 GHz至300 GHz的微波為行動通訊載波,以提供1 Gb/s、甚至10 Gb/s的數據頻寬,另一方面將採用巨量多輸入輸出技術,以提升頻譜使用的效益。後者乃利用相位陣列天線,來達成波束成形目的,以便進行空間上的分工多工。若要將巨量多輸入輸出技術應用於採用高頻率微波的下一世代無線通訊系統上,則必須針對相位陣列天線所需的各天線間電磁輻射相位差,發展微波時間延遲技術,以避免因波束偏移的效應,而降低無線通訊的品質。本發明技術只需要市面上隨處可購得的一個典型半導體雷射,即可進行高頻率(10 GHz至100 GHz)、大瞬時頻寬(7 GHz以上)微波的時間延遲,無需任何特殊設計或結構的半導體雷射。因本發明技術的全光學特性,不但可減少所需的昂貴高頻電子元件,還可避免受限於電子元件的頻寬,因此可針對10 GHz至100 GHz範圍內的微波進行時間延遲,遂可因應不同無線通訊網路所需的不同微波頻率規格而彈性調整。此外,微波訊號在微波時間延遲前後的線寬及相位雜訊皆相同,因此有利於採用高階調制格式編碼的微波進行時間延遲,以滿足無線通訊頻寬更進一步提升的需求。再者,在光檢測器接收相同的光功率條件下,微波在時間延遲後的功率大幅增加,有利於提升通訊網路的訊號檢測靈敏度、光纖傳輸距離及網路傳輸效能。 For the next-generation wireless communication system, while microwaves ranging from 30 GHz to 300 GHz will be used to provide a data bandwidth of 1 Gb/s or even 10 Gb/s, the massive multi-input multi-output (MIMO) technology will also be adopted to increase spectral efficiency. For the latter, phase array antennas are required to form highly directional microwave beams for spatial multiplexing. To apply the MIMO technology for the next-generation wireless communication system adopting high-frequency microwaves, the development of the microwave time delay technology is necessary in order to create phase shifts among different microwave radiations from difference antennas to avoid beam squint. This invention uses nonlinear dynamics of semiconductor lasers for such microwave time delay. Only a typical and commercially available semiconductor laser is required as the key component, and no specific or high-speed semiconductor laser is necessary. Owing to the all-optical nature of this invention, not only the number of the required yet expensive electronic devices can be reduced, but also the bandwidth limitation resulting from the use of electronic devices can be mitigated. Therefore, this invention can be applied to introduce a microwave time delay to a microwave signal at a microwave frequency ranging from a few gigahertz to hundreds of gigahertz, and therefore can be dynamically reconfigured for different wireless communication networks adopting different microwave frequencies. In addition, the linewidth and phase noise of the time-delayed microwave signal are kept the same as those of the time-to-be-delayed microwave signal, making this invention beneficial to wireless communication systems adopting advanced modulation formats for data transmission in order to further increase the communication capacity. Furthermore, under the same optical power level received by a photodetector, the power of the microwave signal is significantly higher after microwave time delay, which is advantageous in improving the detection sensitivity, fiber transmission distance, and link gain of a communication network.
