可切換低耗能膽固醇液晶裝置

本案提出可切換低耗能膽固醇液晶裝置是將膽固醇液晶內有摻雜可吸收可見光之染料。此裝置在初始狀態下為透明態,使用者可透過看到此裝置背後的真實物體/場景,此裝置可永久穩定的以透明態存在;當照射特殊波長光線後,此裝置變成非透光態。因為染料的吸收,此裝置此時所有顯示區域為黑色,使用者無法看到裝置背後的物體/場景,並可在此狀態下存在數十分鐘;當照射另一特殊波長光線後,此裝置會再回復為透明態。由於只有在切換此兩狀態時需照射特殊波長的光線,可大幅節省電力消耗,所以可以被應用在各種可攜式電子產品,如智慧型手機等或是可切換穿透度的智慧型窗戶。 Switchable low power consumption cholesteric liquid crystal device (CLCD) is proposed. The CLC doped with dyes can absorb visible lights. The CLCD is initially in transparent state. The user can see the object/scene behind CLCD in real world. CLCD can permanently exist in transparent state. After the illumination with specific lights, CLCD becomes opaque state because CLCD becomes visible black due to absorption of dyes. User cannot see the object/scene behind CLCD. CLCD can exist in opaque state for several tens of minutes. Furthermore, by illuminating with another specific lights, CLCD can be switched back to transparent state. The power is only consumed during switching between transparent and opaque state. Benefiting from the low power consumption, B-GH-CLCD has great potential to be applied for portable electronics, such as smart cell phone, and switchable transmission smart window.
