Battery Having Separator Including Mesoporous Silica Thin Film Positioned On Macroporous Substrate

The objective of the invention is to develop a filter for nanofiltration. A novel filter for nanofiltration was successfully developed. The filter is composed of a dual-layer mesoporous membrane that includes a free-standing mesoporous silica thin film (MSTF) with uniform perpendicular mesopore channels on a marcoporous substrate (e.g. anodic aluminum oxide (AAO)). According to IUPAC, porous materials are classified into microporous ones having a fine pore diameter of 2 nm or less, mesoporous ones having a fine pore diameter of 2 to 50 nm, and macroporous ones having a fine pore diameter of 50 nm or more. Accordingly, the present disclosure relates to a filter that consists of a dual‐layer mesoporous membrane including: (a) a first layer of a mesoporous silica thin film (MSTF) with uniform perpendicular mesopore channels, and (b) a second layer of a macroporous substrate, wherein the MSTF is freely standing on a surface of the macroporous substrate.
